Gene Hunt will return, but right now he is going to “Cranford.”
Life After Mars
As no-nonsense, Cortina-driving cop Gene Hunt, Philip Glenister became a cult hero. Now he’s trading in the camel coat for a cravat and breeches, and swapping Seventies Salford for Victorian Cheshire

Wow! Last night there were so many story lines moving forward. I can’t wait for next week.
It is so strange to see Janel Moloney playing a kind of slutty person. I’m too used to sweet Donna — and poor Declan - I wonder how much longer he will last.

Life On Mars/State of Play - UK
October 29, 2007 · 3 Comments
Thanks to a kind friend n the UK, I got to watch Life On Mars. Sadly, Sam Tyler’s adventures are now over.
There is a sequal coming - A sequel to TV drama Life on Mars is to be made with the action moving to the 1980s, it has been confirmed. The announcement was made as the second and final series of Life on Mars - in which a modern police officer was trapped in 1973 - came to an end. The sequel, Ashes to Ashes, will see Philip Glenister return as DCI Gene Hunt - but this time in London in 1981.
No John Simm, but Philip Glenister still, thank the Lord.
Speaking of John Simm - I have watched State of Play several times, and it just gets better each time. What an outstanding series! And my old fav, Bill Nighy, winning a BAFTA for his role - so great. I read that Brad Pitt is making a USA version as a film. Why?????
John Simm and State of Play news from Wikipedia: “In April 2007, it was announced that Simm would resume the role of Cal McCaffrey in the second series of State of Play, with Bill Nighy also returning to the show although Simm has said himself that he would not be reprising the role…. He will reunite with his Life on Mars co-star Philip Glenister— with whom he also appeared in Clocking Off and State of Play—in the forthcoming 1980s-set crime film Tuesday, in which the pair play bank robbers. Upon the announcement of the film, Glenister joked that he and Simm were contractually obliged to work with each other once a year.
